Denver Elks Lodge #17 has revived the charter of Scouting BSA Troop 17 as of 2020.
Scouting BSA, formerly known as Boy Scouts, welcomes youth ages 11 -18.
Scouting builds character and community through a variety of programs and activities including camping, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, community service projects, and more. These activities instill a sense of confidence, preparedness, and honor in our youth.
Troop 217 meets Mondays 7pm at the Lodge
As of spring 2021, Troop 217 has 14 active Scouts; 5 in high school and 9 in middle school and had a scout achieve Eagle Rank in 2020. Even though the Scouts work hard on advancement and merit badges, they are a social group having fun together inside and outside of Scouting.
The Troop provides service to the community in conjunction and separately from Lodge service projects including:
St. Elizabeth Sandwich Line – 4x/year
National Prescription Drug Takeback Day
Bienvenidos Food Bank
The goal for 2021, is to offer 20 nights/30 days outside. In 2019 we had 16 nights and 24 days spread out over 7 campouts so we are confident we can achieve this goal! Each year we are excited to do the Klondike Derby at Tahosa, camping with our fellow Troops, a week-long summer camp typically at Peaceful Valley or Camp Alexander, and excursions to National Parks, improved campgrounds, and backpacking/primitive camping. We also hike, snowshoe and bike ride depending on the weather, as well as non-outdoor activities such as playing RPGs and hit the arcade. We are planning to send scouts to Philmont in summer 2022, this won’t be available to new scouts, but it's something to look forward to when they get older (13yo and finished 8th grade)!
